On Sunday the wind died down and Easter morning was sunny and warm. Cheryl had not forgotten her daughter on the holiday.
A look out the window showed that yesterday's wind hold was gone and the tram was running on Table Mountain. We had breakfast and got on our way. It was another steep drive up to the tram station and we found we were parking (along with everyone else) basically right on the edge of a cliff.
There was a little bit of a wait to get on the tram, but the line moved and the trip up took all of 5 minutes.
It was an Easter Sunday crowd, with a lot of families at the top, and lots of little kids eating ice cream. There were phenomenal views in every direction.
It's a relatively flat, craggy mountaintop with lots of low vegetation.
We wandered on the trails.
Kelly had a Julie Andrews moment.
(This is a lot less scary than it looks.)
Kelly hadn't been up Table Mountain since she arrived in South Africa, so she was very happy.
We made our way down shortly before sunset.
We went back down to the apartment and headed out for dinner at a rooftop restaurant just below our balcony.
Easter Monday was another great weather day. It was a national holiday in South Africa--Family Day. Kelly wanted to show us Muizenberg and Kalk Bay, two of her favorite places. We got an early start and headed over.
Muizenberg is popular with surfers. It's big and flat and the waves just roll in. It doesn't hurt that it is super windy here, and was today.
Muizenberg is also famous for its multicolored bathing huts.
Then we headed just down the road to Kalk Bay, a funky little fishing village with lots of little shops.
Kelly had an upset stomach so we skipped lunch and headed back to the apartment. We ate in and prepared for another loadshedding night. That meant another movie for us and almost no changes in our lively neighborhood. When the power went out there was almost cheering in air, and the bars and streets were full of activity despite the outage. I continue to be amazed at the way the South Africans handle this with good nature and creativity.
Tomorrow it's back to Stellenbosch for Kelly and down the coast to Hermanus for Cheryl and I.
